Ashley Jachens, MGC, CGC

Ashley Jachens is a board-certified genetic counselor at the Center for Maternal and Fetal Medicine at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, MD. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology from the University of Wyoming in 2010. Following graduation, she worked for several years at a behavioral health hospital, specializing in the treatment of eating disorders in Denver, CO. During her employment in the mental health field, Ashley learned of the genetic counseling profession and found her calling. In 2015, she earned a Master’s in Genetic Counseling degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore, where she studied genetic counseling students’ training and readiness to provide psychiatric genetic counseling. 

Since graduation, Ashley has worked in cancer genetics at Mercy Medical Center, as well as perinatal genetics at Anne Arundel Medical Center and currently at Howard County General Hospital. Ashley enjoys working with students as a student thesis committee member and serves as a clinical rotation supervisor for both the University of Maryland Master’s in Genetic Counseling Program, as well as the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and National Human Genome Research Institute Genetic Counseling Program. Ashley is an active member of NSGC and has been a member and chair of the State Meeting and Education committee for three years.
